Wild 'n' Caged

Image
I was at a Wild Life Park recently. I don’t know if there is any major difference between a zoo and a wild life park. Do you? From the bold African Lion (Simba in Swahili) who retreats from none, the unfriendly leopard to the babbling monkeys running after all sorts from guests…perching on tree tops to eat banana or figure out how to sip unfinished drinks in tightly closed bottles thrown at them to the watching delight of tourists. Some animals looked distant as they walked round their cages, some seem to have accepted their boundaries and caged habitat for God-knows-how long, some slept away oblivious of the camera clicks and teeming tourists who paid to walk round their abode. I have always considered myself a courageous person but standing near the secure perimeter fence of the lions’ cage gave me jitters as my thoughts ran wild on all possibilities. A camera click caught my younger daughter freaking out with hands tucked in-between her legs and her jugular veins visi

Home – where the heart is

Image
That feeling when you are headed home after a seemingly long eventful, informative, exciting holiday! The longing for home and mixed feelings for a fun filled holiday just ended.   As an adult, your mind begins to re-adjust to your regular routine. Early mornings, work and/or business schedules, tight deadlines, daily commitments and the likes.  You begin to remember the 'atmosphere' before the holiday period…unfinished tasks, unkept promises, outstanding debts, expected deliveries or supplies.  For kids it is different.  The holiday and fun should continue for all they care. Every other thing can be put on hold, including school. The euphoria of holiday blinds a regular kid. Am sure you have been there too.  As you approach home, from deep within your fountains, thankfulness begins to rise. Grateful to God for family. Friends.  Household. Neighbours. Journey mercies.  Grateful for the familiar space called Home. The warmth you feel when you touch things you ow

Day 5 – Inspirations from the Beach

Image
I have never imagined swimming anywhere other than a regular swimming pool with boundaries that I can see and clearly marked depths as well.  From afar at the beach, somewhere beyond what the eyes could see well, the blue sea (Indian Ocean in this case) appears to merge with the blue sky above showing 2 different shades of blue with a line in- between.  Genesis 1:6 says on the 2 nd day of creation,  God said 'let there be a firmament/space to separate water from water... God called the firmament "sky" (paraphrased). It all made sense to me seeing this scene.  Boundaries - The shades, though almost invisible exist.   Again, call it God's indelible signature in Nature.  Beaches are usually characterized with lush palm trees that have green fronds gracefully moving at the passing of breeze. Boats. Coconuts. Shells. Sandcastles at different stages of construction. Wreckages. Foot prints. Pebbles.  Debris washed ashore.  White sands that dust your feet no m

From my Journal - Inspirations in the Woods

Day 3 of our vacation in East Africa. A family of 4 exploring nature - Beaches, Wild life parks and today – Paradise lost God’s signature is so indelible in nature; even a blind eye can see it. Why would a body of water that stretches as far as your eyes can see appear so calm and motionless and then flip-flop from great heights at the other end with great splashing, rhythmic sounds? Nothing stops it. Like a dedicated servant on a mission, it tumbles over untiringly year in year out. Calcite rock Formations with entrances and roomy spaces like well-preserved abode of ancient beings solidly stood underneath the water falls. It could go for your abode (without rent though) if you are courageous to live in there. I am told some caves served as forts in olden days. Providence. On arriving Paradise Lost, my first hit was that there were no tour guides. Is the owner trying to cut cost? How on earth would one navigate his way through the vast natural ‘paradise’ un

29,000ft above Sea level

Image
W ords will never be adequate to describe the awesome beauty I see in the skies each time I fly in an aircraft. Today, cruising at about 29000ft above the sea level i saw pure white, giant fluffy-like ‘cotton wool’ clouds in an endless array. The clouds seemed like huge folds of creamy soft balls of ice cream that a billion kids would never be able to consume. Looking farther, I saw blue shades and streaks of white puffs rising further into the sky like castles, some enveloping each other in consistent and ordinary patterns, all spreading out as far as my eyes could see. Just pure, serene atmosphere where no life exists to witness all the grandeur. Man may never have known this path but for the Wright brothers. No matter how many times I behold this breath taking sight, I lack words to describe it and to think that this is not even the peak of God’s creation is another food for thought. Some clouds are suspended on absolutely nothing, thus defying gravi
