From my Journal - Inspirations in the Woods

Day 3 of our vacation in East Africa. A family of 4 exploring nature - Beaches, Wild life parks and today – Paradise lost

God’s signature is so indelible in nature; even a blind eye can see it. Why would a body of water that stretches as far as your eyes can see appear so calm and motionless and then flip-flop from great heights at the other end with great splashing, rhythmic sounds? Nothing stops it. Like a dedicated servant on a mission, it tumbles over untiringly year in year out. Calcite rock Formations with entrances and roomy spaces like well-preserved abode of ancient beings solidly stood underneath the water falls. It could go for your abode (without rent though) if you are courageous to live in there. I am told some caves served as forts in olden days. Providence.

On arriving Paradise Lost, my first hit was that there were no tour guides. Is the owner trying to cut cost? How on earth would one navigate his way through the vast natural ‘paradise’ unaided by some one familiar with the terrain? I was so sure it was not going to be fun in any way. But right in the midst of it, as a team, we set to discover the trails to the Island, Boat riding quay, Stone Age cave, Water falls, Horse and Camel riding spots etc. It was then the excitement heightened as it became an adventure for the team.

The serenity and coolness of the entire atmosphere - beautiful flowers and trees planted along the patch-stone paved walkways, sweet aroma of mutton barbeque serenading in the air coming from some campers and picnickers sitting round a thatch hut, tweeting birds, caw caw of crows swooping and preying on song birds, neighing of the horses being ridden for pleasure by children would easily make one be at peace with nature.

We were satisfied at the end of our ‘self guided tour’. We settled for horse riding as the last activity and beamed with smiles as we walked up the layers of green meadows and rocky plains. We perhaps wouldn’t have done better with a tour guide. Every one enjoyed the horse riding but yours truly. As the horse moved…trotting one leg after the other, it seemed like I was going to wobble down from my high horse despite holding the reins! …Left hind leg, left front leg, right hind leg, right front leg, in a regular 1-2-3-4 beat, I begged the hostler to let me come down with immediate alacrity. This amazed my kids but I would rather be safe than sorry.

As I sat to wait for the rest of the family to enjoy the horse rides, I flipped through Nkiruka’s latest release - ‘Made in Heaven’ whilst reminiscing on the outing at the same time, it occurred to me that really in a lot of ways, you can empower yourself. You can decide to take the lead and drive yourself to the next level. It’s your call. The word empowerment has become like a local parlance, one party waits for another party to help make the difference and change the tide. And God waits for you to step out in faith and behold the beauty He has in store for you. When the chips are down, you will always somehow go through. Why wait for the chips to go down first? A new year affords us opportunities to Recollect, Reflect, Reconnect, Re-strategize, Refresh, Refire, and Re-launch. Embrace opportunities to lead and invest in your self. The rewards are numerous.
